KAYHAN LANNES ÖZMEN is principally a man from everywhere.
He has a considered and nuanced approach to filmmaking - drawing on his aptitude and understanding of multiple genres - from Emmy nominated short films to music videos to documentaries to widely applauded commercial work.
He's got a keen eye - and his films are insistingly cinematic. But they also feel close. Real. Intimate. No doubt influenced by the narrative fiction route he has travelled, as a film graduate from the renowned Tisch School of Arts in New York & PUC in Rio de Janeiro.
Kayhan has, what one might call, gravitas. As evidenced by his sense of authentic storytelling, direction, as well his excellence in craft. There is a rhythm and elegance to his work, a flair for the avant garde and a keen sense of how far to conceptually push a simple good idea, so that it becomes a visually interesting and compelling film that is a joy to watch.
In 2016, Kayhan made the film "Girl on the Escalator" which was internationally celebrated on the festival circuit and long listed at the Academy awards. He is a repeatedly commissioned director at NOWNESS and has created a long list of commercials for international brands such as Smirnoff, Stella Artois, Old Spice, Netflix and Eisenbahn, to name but a few.
